Explanation of Discipleship Program's Levels

Level: 1 - Introduction to the Program

Estimated Time to Complete 3-6 hours

Course Description: Authentic Walk Ministries Online Discipleship Course is intended to help you grow in your spiritual walk with God by understanding the basics of the Christian life such as "What does it mean to be saved and how is that lived out in my life?", "How do I overcome temptation?", "How do I grow closer to God?". I have broken the course down into 3 levels for you, each one going deeper and requiring a greater demand of work. Level 1, which you are now on, is the easiest of the 3 and is intended to introduce you to the course and help you to become familiar with the web page while learning the very basics of the Authentic Christian life. This Level will help you if you are seeking to know God a bit better, if you continue to future levels it will help you gain greater mastery over these items and prepare you to teach it as a Sunday School course. Course Objectives
Upon completion of this level you will...

  • Know how the notes are organized, what they are about and be able to access this valuable information when you need it later.
  • Begin to understand the most important concepts in how to live for God
  • Perform 3 activities that will help reinforce and apply the lessons being learnt
Course Assignments
  • Scan each topic just to see what is in it (you are not required at this level to read everything just browse)
  • Do 3 of the suggested activities and write down your experience (This is important because it is doing it that one really learns.  Discipleship is not about learning information but becoming discipled in one's life which implies a change of action)

Level: 2 - Serious Study

Estimated Time to Complete 1-6 weeks

Course Description: While Level 1 was just an introduction to the course Level 2 is intended to go deeper and provide the student with a deeper knowledge and application of the topics. This is intended for more serious students who are really seeking to grow in their personal spiritual life with God. It would also be helpful to provide knowledge of key concepts of spirituality in order to help others to grow in their walk with God through casual counseling and working with friends. When you are done you will have done some serious research and thinking on how to live for God and be making steps towards applying it in your daily life. Also these notes will provide the basis of your research for Level 3 where you prepare to teach it to a Sunday school (or other) class. Click here to learn more about the other levels

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this level you will...

  • Know what the key concepts of how to live for God are.
  • Have thought through and struggled with these concepts as evidenced by submitting questions or comments on them to the site
  • Practically applied each of the topics by performing an exercise that reinforces what you have been learning
Course Assignments
  • Read all the lessons for each topic (you do not need to read all the responses other students give just the lesson itself and the responses that are of interest to you)
  • Submit something (a comment, a question, a link to another web site, a poem, a thought, a story, a testimony, or just your two-bits) to any one lesson for each topic (which is the same as 1 response per topic - not much but it shows you are thinking about it)
  • Do one of the suggested exercises for each topic (this is to help it move from the head to the heart and feet)

Level: 3 - Preparing to Teach it

Estimated Time to Complete 2-12 weeks

Course Description: The greatest learning often comes through teaching for it is in teaching that one must understand the topic in such a way that it can be placed in one's own words. In this Level you will take all that you have been learning from the web page, study some other web pages and resources and then combine them all together to form a shortened Sunday School Lesson (or other creative project) This Level is designed for those who want to help others grow in their Christian life (such as teachers, care group leaders, evangelists, disciplers, preachers, and counsellors). When you are finished this level you can even apply to become an Authentic Walk Leader. Click here to learn more about the other levels

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this level you will...

  • Be ready to teach the key concepts of this course to others.
  • Researched other resources on the key concepts including books and other web pages (don't worry the site offers many good suggestions)
  • Practically applied each of the topics by performing an exercise that reinforces what you have been learning
Course Assignments
  • Research another web page for each of the topics
  • Read 2 books from those suggested in the Bookroom on any of the topics(Click here to go there) Blind students or those with reading struggles can listen to the New Testament in Audio format.
  • Take all your notes and write a lesson plan series (for Sunday School, discipleship, whatever fits your context).  When you are done submit it to the section Lesson Plans and creative assigment submissions.
  • Alternative to lesson plan:  Design a creative project that teaches this topic (a computer game, artwork, multimedia, etc.)  Set it up on a web page and put the url to it and a desription under Lesson Plans and creative assigment submissions.(If that does not work you might have to just describe it and send the idea in to me)
  • Do one of the suggested exercises for each topic (this is to help it move from the head to the heart and feet)
